Boots-to-Roots | Mission #002 - MSG Steven Davis

Boots-to-Roots Program | B2R Mission #002

It is our honor to introduce MSG Steven Davis, an active member of the Mississippi Army National Guard, and his wife Renee Davis, of Decatur, as the second recipients of the Boots-to-Roots (B2R) Program.

The Boots-to-Roots Program was created to support servicemembers and Veterans who are interested in transitioning from military service into agriculture—helping them establish long-term, sustainable roots through American elderberry cultivation.

After learning more about elderberries and their many benefits and uses, Steven and Renae began exploring how elderberry could fit into their own land and lifestyle goals. With 37 years of military service, MSG Davis brings a deep appreciation for service, commitment, and community—values that align closely with the mission behind Boots-to-Roots.

In MSG Davis’ words:

“After several conversations with Dewayne about elderberries, and its benefits and many uses, Renee and I became interested in planting and exploring these benefits. With 37 years in the military and a veteran, I appreciate what Missy and Dewayne have set out to do and wanted to support Veteran Berries and Boots to Roots!”

Through Boots-to-Roots Mission #002, Veteran Berries is proud to support Steven and Renee as they begin their elderberry journey—joining a growing network of Veterans and military families investing in land stewardship, food security, and purposeful growth.

This is why we started the Boots-to-Roots Program—Veterans supporting Veterans, moving from service to soil.
